This footage from Kansas City station KCMO-TV is a compilation of several mostly silent clips. The exception with sound is noted. The footage shows former president Harry S. Truman around the Kansas City and Independence, Missouri area, 1959-1960. Included here are:
- April 19, 1959. Crowds gathered at the Harry S. Truman birthplace in Lamar, Missouri, during its dedication as a state historic site.
- Probably July 29, 1960. Mr. Truman and Senator Lyndon B. Johnson speak in a press conference in KC, likely at the Muehlebach Hotel.
- August 10, 1960. In a press conference from the Truman Library, Mr. Truman and Governor of Connecticut Abe Ribicoff discuss Truman’s role in the John F. Kennedy presidential campaign. (see MP2005-19 for different version with sound: [ Ссылка ])
- Probably July 29, 1960. Senator LBJ and Lady Bird Johnson arrive at KC Municipal airport on Continental Airlines.
- Probably July 29, 1960. A couple of Continental Airline flight engineers on strike, picketing outside the Muehlebach Hotel.
- Probably July 29, 1960. Senator LBJ with Mr. Truman in continuation of press conference above. Also Senator LBJ in continuation of KC Municipal Airport coverage above.
- Unidentified meeting in Truman Library.
- December 17, 1959. Former Secretary of the Interior Oscar Chapman gives his papers to the Truman Library. Mr. Truman, Archivist of the United States Wayne Grover, and Truman Library Director Dr. Philip Brooks accept them in the Truman Library's Oval Office replica. Mr. Chapman joins artist Thomas Hart Benton on the scaffolding as he works on his mural, "Independence and the Opening of the West," at the Truman Library. Mr. Truman brings Chapman on a tour.
- December 9, 1959. Mr. Truman dedicates a high humidity treatment room in the pediatrics section of Menorah Medical Center in KC in memory of Eddie Jacobson. He presents a memorial plaque to Paul Uhlmann, Jr., on the hospital's board of directors. Also present are Bluma Jacobson, Hy Vile, and Rabbi Samuel Mayerberg.
- November 16, 1959. The 1959 Murray-Green Award for Community Service was given to Mr. Truman by Joseph A. Beirne of the AFL-CIO. He was cited for "his outstanding contributions to the health and welfare of all Americans and people everywhere during his years in the White House, as well as during the years of his active retirement." Included here are scenes from the photo op and the ceremony and speakers Leo Perlis, Thomas J. Gavin, and George Docking at the labor dinner at the Muehlebach Hotel.
- October 21, 1959. Phil Davis gives Mr. Truman paintings and drawings at Chamber of Commerce Luncheon at the RLDS Auditorium Laurel Club in Independence. Mr. Truman gives a speech.
- Thomas Hart Benton climbs the scaffolding to work on his mural at the Truman Library. He's also shown with Mr. Truman looking at the draft of the mural.
- Exterior views of the Truman home, 219 N. Delaware Street, Independence.
- May 12, 1959. Mr. Truman's 75th Birthday Party at the Muehlebach Hotel, KC. Mr. Truman speaks about the failures of the current Republican (Eisenhower) administration, particularly with financial policies that hurt farmers and regular people. (sound)
- September 11, 1959. From the Truman Library, Mr. Truman gives checks on behalf of the Eddie Jacobson Foundation for Polio treatment. He presented one check to C.R. Huston, chairman of the Jackson Co. chapter of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis (March of Dimes); and one check to Sister Louis Marie (director of nurses) and Sister Madeline Maria (hospital administrator) for a whirlpool therapy device at Queen of the World Hospital, KC.
- Mr. Truman and Dr. Brooks with unidentified people in Terrace Penthouse of the Muehlebach Hotel.
- Mr. Truman conducts a tour of the Truman Library Museum to an unidentified group of mostly women, likely the Communication Workers of America.
- Mr. Truman speaks to a meeting of the Communication Workers of America.
The original film was supposed to be about 45 minutes and appears to be cut off here. The following items are additionally described in the original film but are not present on this video:
