This is a video upload from my other channel hence the similarity in name. Here I briefly explain the philosophical thinking of Thales of Miletus, the founder of the Milesian school of thought.
Not much is known about Thales as ancient documents are sparse and usually come from tertiary sources like Aristotle, whom had his own bias in interpretation. Therefore, what we known about Thales are broad and sweeping statements that are open to wide interpretation. This is part of the reason why this video is so short but succinct in addressing the main features of Thales philosophy. I do not want to give unnecessary knowledge that may turn out to be difficult to verify, therefore i have done my best to limit myself to peer reviewed academic literature and steer away from wikipedia articles. It is not that wikipedia is a bad source, far from it, but that it allows too much opinion in a subject that frankly provides no leeway in the matter. As I said before, this is because we have such limited knowledge of Thales that the knowledge we do possess of him must be carefully examined. That peer reviewed element is lacking in wikipedia. For other history videos it is usually fine because sources are more verifiable. The good news is that he is one of the more obscure pre-socratics and from here on out the material should be a bit more dense but refined. I also didn't cover the reason why he chose water as the arche or origin of all things. This is because one can insinuate that it has something to do with the fact that we cannot live without water. It can also be said that since he analyzed his environment and tried to interpret it rationally, he noticed the importance that moisture played in promoting life.
