Each October, more than 75 people gather from far and wide to taste heirloom apple varieties and to learn their stories. This event, organized by the staff at Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's historic home and plantation, is hosted by Tom Burford, a pomologist and the author of Apples of North America: 192 Exceptional Varieties for Gardeners, Growers and Cooks.
