Angry drivers dragged Insulate Britain protesters off road | UK News | NewsRme
The Insulate Britain demonstration was met with a barrage of horn blasts from lorry drivers, and a female demonstrator came dangerously close to being ran over by one of them.
Commuters approached protesters on Wednesday morning, dragging activists off the road near a major Essex industrial area as they targeted an M25 junction near the Dartford Crossing.
Thurrock's St Clements Way and London Road intersection was blocked by around 20 protestors, causing several cars, including HGVs, to halt and turn around.
As protesters sat and laid on the road, motorists pulled flags from their hands. Others had smeared adhesive over their faces and bodies and remained there, resulting in lengthy traffic backups.
When a female demonstrator stopped in front of a blue Hyundai, the driver yelled, "This is foolishness," and almost ran her over.
Drivers repeatedly hauled several members of the group off the road, dragging their bags and clothes each time they returned to their places and sat down.
Later, police came and cleared the roadways of additional demonstrators.
Essex Police said that they had made 35 arrests in all, and they recognized the anger of drivers.
Additionally, HGV drivers have expressed concern that the demonstrations may exacerbate the current gasoline shortage by preventing tankers from reaching refueling points..
Drivers have informed LBC that if the demonstration continues, they fear they won't be able to supply gasoline to any garages or individuals.
Another guy lamented the fact that he'd missed a job interview for an HGV driver because of the bottlenecks.
Extinction Rebellion's British affiliate, Insulate Britain, has protested 13 times in the last two weeks.
