The young demonstrators are calling for reform of the monarchy and the release of detained activists.
But authorities are showing little leniency to the young protest leaders that they detained last year.
The activists face long jail sentences if they're found guilty under the country's strict royal defamation laws.
It's a watershed moment for Thailand - the prosecutions have sparked debate between those who say the penalties are too harsh, and others who believe the monarchy must be protected.
