If you're having problems with your Microsoft Office applications, like Word and Excel, freezing up, experiencing glitches, or generally not working as they should, a great first troubleshooting step is to repair your Microsoft Office installation. When you repair your Microsoft Office installation, your settings are preserved and core files associated with your installation are replaced or updated as needed. Alternatively, when you uninstall and reinstall Microsoft Office, you'll essentially be reverted back to the default factory settings for those applications, where you'll likely lose your personal settings in those apps.
Now let's walk through the steps to repair your Microsoft Office installation on your Windows computer.
Step 1. Navigate to your Windows 11 home screen, and then press the "Windows" and "I" keys at the same time. The Windows Settings screen will be displayed.
Step 2. Click "Apps" in the menu on the left side of the screen. Apps options will appear on the right side of the screen.
Step 3. Click "Installed Apps" in the list of options. A list of installed apps is shown.
Step 4. Scroll down this screen until you find Office, and then click the ellipses associated with that option. A menu is displayed.
Step 5. Click "Advanced Options" in this menu. A screen displaying advanced options for the Office application is shown.
Step 6. Navigate to the Reset section on this screen, and then click "Repair." A progress bar is displayed showing the status of repairing the Office suite of applications. After the Office repair is complete, you'll see a check mark displayed next to Repair, with a note letting you know that if you're still having issues with your Microsoft Office applications, the next best course of action is to reset Microsoft Office.
