A 32-year-old man was attacked by a shark, this Sunday (25th) July 2021, on Piedade beach, in Jaboatão dos Guararapes, in Greater Recife. According to the Fire Department, he suffered an injury on the posterior part of his left thigh and buttocks and was assisted at the Hospital da Aeronáutica, also in Jaboatão
The incident took place in the area where the Little Church of Piedade is located, where another 13 cases had already been registered. It's the second shark attack at the same location in a 15-day span. On July 10, a 51-year-old man died after a shark incident at the same spot on Piedade beach.

Since 1992, when attacks on the coast of Pernambuco began to be recorded, another 66 incidents involving sharks have been reported. The data are from the State Monitoring Committee (Cemit). In all, there were 26 deaths during this period.

Of every five shark attacks reported in Pernambuco, one happened in this same area. Of the other 13 people attacked at this location, 12 were bathers and one was a surfer. In all, seven died.

The most recent victim was 51-year-old general services assistant Marcelo Rocha Santos. He had his hand ripped off and a deep wound in his thigh. He was even taken to the Restoration Hospital, but he arrived lifeless.

To avoid incidents with sharks, several activities at sea have been banned since 1999 in higher risk areas. Among them, surfing and bodyboarding.
The prohibition extends from Del Chifre beach, in Olinda, to Praia do Paiva, in Cabo de Santo Agostinho, including all beaches in Recife and Jaboatão.

Um homem de 32 anos foi atacado por um tubarão, neste domingo (25) Julho de 2021, na praia de Piedade, em Jaboatão dos Guararapes, no Grande Recife. De acordo com o Corpo de Bombeiros, ele sofreu lesão na parte posterior da coxa esquerda e glúteos e foi socorrido ao Hospital da Aeronáutica, também em Jaboatão
O incidente aconteceu na área onde fica a Igrejinha de Piedade, onde já tinham sido registrados outros 13 casos. É o segundo ataque de tubarão no mesmo local em um intervalo de 15 dias. No dia 10 de julho, um homem de 51 anos morreu após um incidente com tubarão no mesmo ponto da praia de Piedade.
Desde 1992, quando começaram a ser registrados os ataques no litoral pernambucano, foram notificados outros 66 incidentes com tubarão. Os dados são do Comitê Estadual de Monitoramento (Cemit). Ao todo, houve 26 mortes, neste período.

De cada cinco ataques de tubarão notificados em Pernambuco, um aconteceu nesta mesma área. Das outras 13 pessoas atacadas neste local, 12 eram banhistas e uma era surfista. Ao todo, sete morreram.

A vítima mais recente foi o auxiliar de serviços gerais Marcelo Rocha Santos, de 51 anos. Ele teve a mão arrancada e um ferimento profundo na coxa. Chegou a ser levado para o Hospital da Restauração, mas chegou sem vida.

Para evitar incidentes com tubarões, várias atividades no mar estão proibidas desde 1999 em áreas de maior risco. Entre elas, surfe e bodyboard.
A proibição vai da praia Del Chifre, em Olinda, até a Praia do Paiva, no Cabo de Santo Agostinho, incluindo todas as praias do Recife e de Jaboatão.
