Since a few weeks I'm experimenting with HDR (High Dynamic Range) pictures. I got interested in it because of some beautiful pictures I found on the Internet.
For a HDR picture you need at least 3 pictures of the same object (a tripod is recommended) with different exposures. For most of the pictures I use the following exposure settings: 2 steps under exposed (-2), normal exposed (0) and 2 steps over exposed (+2). When the camera has AEB (Auto Exposure Bracketing) it is very easy to get these settings. For the best results the pictures should be taken in RAW or TIFF.
To process the picture to HDR you need photo editing software that can generate HDR pictures. I use Photomatix, this program was especially developed for creating HDR pictures. You need to import the 3 pictures in the program and then you have do some tonemapping untill you have the desired result.
Maybe this sounds complicated but it is not very difficult at all.
Several tutorials about how to make HDR pictures can be found on the Internet.
