The swing through is the part of the step when all of the weight is carried by one leg, while the other swings forward. This is a common place for people to begin to pitch forward, leading to a heavy heel strike. This exercise, using a stair step as the starting point, will put you in exactly the right position to feel and duplicate the proper movement. You can then apply this in your normal walk. This will improve your posture, improve your fluidity, and decrease the impact on your joints.
