Lately, I've heard a lot of folks compare the rainforests of the Olympic Peninsula to the high desert of eastern Siskiyou. This is usually brought up in the context of dam removal and the push for wild river restoration.
The problem with this comparison is that it's wildly misleading. The Olympic Peninsula and the high desert regions are distinct ecosystems with unique needs. Trying to compare them as if they're interchangeable is like saying an apple is a good substitute for a pineapple! They're both fruit, sure, but entirely different.
