Joshua Tree National Park - Hidden Valley Nature Trail
This easy one-mile loop starts at the Hidden Valley Picnic Area of the main east-west park road. The easy hike explores a rock-enclosed valley that was once rumored to have been used by cattle rustlers. In 1936, desert pioneer Bill Keys blasted a notch through these walls to improve access for his cattle herds. Today this serves as Hidden Valley's main access point.
The valley’s natural enclosure holds more rain than the surrounding area, creating a unique micro-habitat that brings together a wide range of plants and animals not typically found together in this section of the Park.
My daughter Amanda, friend Hannah and I explored this gem of a hike on Christmas Day 2019.
Outdoors With John
Hi I’m John and I enjoy being outdoors. I am passionate about hiking, hiking (road cycling and mountain biking), backpacking, bikepacking, and snowshoeing. I love traveling in our Class C RV and visiting our national parks. I enjoy the natural and historical aspects of the outdoors and often share that on my videos. I also enjoy putting together videos that capture my adventures. I’m not an expert, and I try not to offer too much advice. If you’re like me, I suspect you’ll find value in most of these adventures.
