Today I embark on my goal to become a better FPV drone pilot. Specifically, I want to become better at Freestyle and do all these flips, rolls, cruising, etc. We all have to start somewhere and I was not getting anywhere using only my BETAFPV starter racer drone kit, which you may have seen in the previous video. The flight time is way too short to get any real muscle memory to fly in acro and I always defaulted to stability mode just to boost my ego. I saw a video on the "Drone Supremacy" channel about his son training for 10 days and I figure why not give it a try. His son showed significant improvement, just racing for 10 days straight and I don't think he ever picked up a drone, let alone an FPV drone ever. I'll leave a link below on that video.
Fast forward a few days later and I decided to use DRL Simulator (Drone Racing League) as my choice. There are a ton of other simulator out there, but I specifically used this one because there is a fairly comprehensive training tutorial to take you from zero (beginner) to hero (pro acro mode). Keep in mind, the simulators are mostly based on racing while there are open courses to learn freestyle. I went in with a mindset of learning to "read" lines and muscle memory which then would translate to real-world applications of freestyle. At least that is the hope.
To maximize my training for the 10 days, my goal was to spend a minimum 30 minutes in the drone simulator tutorial training modes and another 30 minutes selecting a race course. To gauge my progress, I would use my race track time completion for a particular course to use as a baseline run. As mentioned, this will be a vlog for the next day 10 and I will try to explain my progress, frustrations, and the whole experience of learning FPV drones.
Wish me luck!
