The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) says it is ready to formalise the industry so that it can operate like any other business.
This decision follows a three-day lekgotla that was held last week between taxi bosses and the government concerning issues like tax, formalisation of the industry, leadership and empowerment.
SANTACO welcomes this, saying that amongst other issues, taxi operators will benefit greatly as workers will have access to the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF).
