Fast break:
There are several ways to perform a fast break, the most common is an L formation. This is where a midfielder or long stick midfielder (LSM) breaks free on a fast break and creates a 4 on 3. The right wing attackman typically leads the point, therefore the defensive point man will be the first slide to the midfielder/LSM running down the field.
Your goal as a midfielder/LSM running down the field is to draw the slide. If the slide does not come, the midfielder should shoot. If the slide comes, pass to the point man or skip down to the bottom right attack-man if his defenseman try's to rotate early to the point man. If the point man gets the pass, he has five options.
1. Pass down to the bottom right attack-man for a shot or a subsequent pass to the bottom left attack-man for a shot.
2. If the defenseman guarding the bottom left attack-man tries to rotate early to the bottom right attack-man, then skip pass to the bottom left attack-man for a shot. (This defender is the key for the point man)
3. Take the shot
4. Pass back to the fast break midfielder for a give and go shot (as the fast break midfielder make sure you stay high by the restriction line.)
5. Pull out and save the ball for a settled possession.
