Piper is only 6, but already says she wants to be a pediatric oncologist when she grows up. She’s a caring and thoughtful kid, but she’s also motivated by the care she received in our Pediatric Oncology Program for Ewing’s sarcoma.
“When you see a 6-year-old using those terms and knowing that’s what she wants to be it shows the impact it made on her,” says Doug, Piper’s dad.
Piper’s pediatric Ewing’s sarcoma diagnosis was hard for her parents, but they quickly bonded with our pediatric oncology care team. Now, they call that care team family and tear up when talking about the pediatric cancer experts who cared for Piper.
In this video, you’ll learn about the Ewing’s sarcoma treatment Piper received, which featured what we provide for all our patients with pediatric cancer: a multidisciplinary care team to address every possible need, the most cutting-edge care available, a personalized treatment plan, new cancer treatments discovered through research that aren’t available at all children’s hospitals, a personal touch and much more.
“We will never be satisfied in our world until we’re able to offer curative therapy to every patient who walks through the door,” says Dr. Carrye Cost, a pediatric oncologist in our Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders who cared for Piper.
See how Piper bonded with everyone from her doctors and nurses to our medical dogs — and watch her triumphantly ring the warrior bell.
