“Grass” (a name we have chosen) is one of the quatrains of Omar Khayyam, an Iranian poet and astronomer of the 11th century. Mohammadreza Shajarian, the late master of traditional Iranian music, sang it. "Grass" was presented in the music album, "Robā’iyāte Khayyām", which was published in 1976 in Iran. It included the reading of Ahmad Shamlou, the vocals of Mohammadreza Shajarian, and the music of Fereydoun Shahbazian.
Khayyam's poetry was introduced to the English-speaking Western world in the 19th century. British poet and writer, Edward Fitzgerald, translated Khayyam's quatrains into English in 1859. But Fitzgerald, with humility, admitted that he did not present a true face of Khayyam and that his translations were "one-sided". He had tried to translate the quatrains into English poetry. He also included his perceptions of Khayyam's worldview. The themes of Khayyam's poetry are life and existence. He considers the human condition and the transience of life.

The cloud came and wept plaintively over the grass,
One must not live without rose-colored wine;
This grass is our spectacle today,
Behold, whose spectacle will be the grass growing from our dust?
