Chaconne in A minor
Played by Antoine Pansera
Instrument: 13 course Baroque Lute by Laurent St-Jacques
Strings : Gamut Gut trebles + Aquila loaded synthetic bass
The musical form of the Chaconne is a continuous variation which is generally characterized by a fairly short repetitive bass line serving as a compositional basis for the piece. In this it is very similar to the Passacaglia. The Chaconne appeared in the Baroque period and was a very widespread form; By far the best known example is Johann Sebastian Bach's "Chaconne" from the Partita in D minor for solo violin.
The chaconne presented here was composed by Robert de Visée who was a lutenist, guitarist, theorbist and viol player at the court of the French kings Louis XIV and Louis XV. This piece is taken from his ''Pieces pour Théorbe et Luth'' (Paris, 1716).
