The Heckler & Koch MP7A1 is a personal defense weapon (PDW) that represents an evolution of the submachine gun concept, designed to meet NATO requirements for a compact, high-velocity firearm. It's chambered for the proprietary HK 4.6×30mm cartridge, which is known for its ability to penetrate body armor. The MP7A1 features a gas-operated, short stroke piston system and a rotating bolt, ensuring reliability and a high rate of fire. It's equipped with a 7-inch barrel and can fire 10-shot semiautomatic groups at 45 meters with impressive accuracy.
The MP7A1 is a direct rival to the FN P90 and was developed in response to the proliferation of cheap yet effective soft body armor, which traditional pistol-caliber firearms like the earlier MP5 and USP were becoming ineffective against. With a cyclic rate of fire of around 950 rounds per minute and a variety of magazine capacities (20-, 30-, or 40-round), the MP7A1 is a versatile weapon for close-quarter engagements.
