Young Vijay Pratap (Dharmendra) lives in an orphanage after being separated from his widowed mother, Laxmi (Sulochana Chatterjee). Years later, a wealthy man, Kailashnath Gupta (Raj Mehra), identifies him as his long lost son and takes him home. Even though wealthy, a self dependent Vijay decides to find employment as a police constable. Vijay's first assignment is to locate a beautiful young woman, Kavita's (Vyjayanthimala) missing father. He falls in love with Kavita. Meanwhile Satish (Pran) convinces Kailashnath that Vijay is not who he claims to be, and that he is his biological son.
