K-FOR troops allowed a Serb convoy of heavy transit vehicles back into Kosovo on Sunday, to collect heavy armour and machinery left behind by the Yugoslav army when it completed its withdrawal from the province.
The Serbs were allowed to cross the border near Podujevo and have been allowed another 48 hours to collect and move equipment left behind.
The K-FOR officer in charge of the area said that the situation when the Serbs first crossed back over the border was tense, but that his men soon secured the area.
As the convoy moved into Kosovo it passed Serb civilians leaving the province.
A Red Cross convoy was also heading into the area on Sunday to provide aid to people.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"The Yugoslav army arrived and obviously they were under the impression that they were still in a combat environment. They arrived here doing the normal drill which I suppose you would do. They tried to dominate the ground to make sure it was secure before they could bring in any more forces or the remainder of their unit. It was quite tense initially for the first few minutes but it's now calmed right down, it isn't a major issue. They realise that we are secure in the area. It is safe for them, and as you can see they are fairly relaxed, they are chatting to our soldiers. There's no big issue at the moment. All they want to do is move their forces, or their transporters to various places around Kosovo to pick up heavy equipment which their forces have left behind."
