Europe's only active volcano, Mount Etna, in Italy, put on a spectacular display on the evening of April 23rd, spewing red hot lava meters up into the night-time sky. The volcanic activity is the seventh eruption that has occurred since the beginning of the year. Whilst the eruptions themselves do not put the local population at risk, the local inhabitants do have to live with the ash showers that follow the events. This time local airports managed to remain open.
