Tired of the hustle and bustle of the city, you might have often thought to yourself of living out of the city. Somewhere on the outskirts. Where there are only trees, green grass, probably a stream flowing nearby, chirping birds, and you with your family. But how many of us have really dared enough to turn this into reality? Dared to move away from the noisy yet comfy life of city? This couple has, who we’re going to talk about in this video.
Make sure you’ve subscribed to our channel before we get started.
So Erin and Josh Myers, the heads of the family had spent their entire life living in the city. After having a daughter, they decided to take a long hiatus from the city life. So in late 2018, they sold their home, packed all their stuff and along with their 3 kids moved to the outers of West Virgia, where they found a 73 acre property that posed as the perfect location to them for building their dream home. This decision was quite bold, especially when you have the responsibility to look after 3 kids. More important that managing expenses was the need to become self reliant. Live in a manner that does not require them to pay continuous visits to the shopping complexes, malls and all sorts of recreational activities in the city. And the enthusiasm and grits of Erin and Josh were able to conquer these obstacles. Not only did they build a dreamy home but also a working farm that was house to bull steer, goats and a flock of chickens.
Their channel Wild Wonderful Off- Grid has over 1 million subscribers and over 200 million views. The reason their channel has grown so popular is because of their relatable content. Whether it is as small as fixing a pipe or as big as getting their site inspected for safety, the audience just connects with it. It’s admired by viewers who themselves are wanting to live a life like the Mayers’ family are living currently, in a remote location away from the crowds of the city. Just the family of 5. The Mayers’ family built their A-frame house from the scratch. One hell of a learning for all those you wanting to adopt a lifestyle like theirs.
By Jan 2019, they had gotten solar panels and electric panels installed at their farms. And by mid 2020 their entire family had shifted inside the house. They even recorded a video of their first walk into their self built paradise and shared on the channel. It was lovely to watch the energy and the reactions of the three kids. They seem to be really enjoying living off the grid rather than missing playing Play Station and going to fancy restaurants to eat. The humorous nature of the Mayers’ family is what holds the audience till the end. They bring A game in entertainment too. Besides entertainment they also disperse a lot of practical knowledge to their viewers in terms of setting up solar system and sharing the challenges they faced in the process and letting others know what mistakes to avoid. So the channel can be put into the category of ‘edutainment’ since it is educational and has visible moments of entertainment.
The scenic beauty of the West Virgina mountains that are in the backdrop of their house just add up to create a great watching experience. Especially during winters when it gets covered in snowfall.
They have another channel ‘Wild Wonderful After the show’ that showcases short videos of their BTS moments while constructing their home and their lives outside of the home. Wild Wonderful Off Grid has an estimated net worth of $1.17 million. This is just a rough estimate, the actual figures are unknown to the public.
So now that you who’s dreaming of living a similar life sitting at home enjoying a speedy internet have learnt enough about their experience, it’s time to start working on your own. Do create a YouTube channel to keep everyone posted and who knows you might be the one we cover next in our video.
