Since the Soviet Union fell in 1991, the Caspian Sea has been subject to a dispute between the countries that border the water. At the heart of the issue is whether the Caspian is a sea or a lake. However recently in 2018 progress has been made to come to an agreement over how the Caspian should be shared.
