Bill Kanengiser discusses the mechanics behind ascending and descending slurs or how they are frequently referred to as, hammer-ons and pull-offs. He describes that for descending slurs, he thinks of it as a "relax-off" and for ascending slurs, the volume comes from the speed that the finger comes down onto the string.
