“If you want to change something you need to go in[to] decision making institutions”. Anastasiia Popsui, the Acting Mayor of Irpin, a town in Ukraine, talks to Lidia Kurasinska about her experience as a woman in politics. From campaigning on the outside for democratic values, to making changes within the institutions, Anastasiia discusses how gender stereotypes of the role of women in society prevent women from entering politics, and the backlash in media she has personally faced. She also established the City Councillors Women European Assembly for women to support one another and to promote women in politics.
