Quick clip of me demoing a recently acquired 1997 R8. This isn’t a true historic R8. After several days of digging with Gibson and the merchant, we were able to pinpoint this as a one-off special run order for a dealer in TX. He ordered two R8s with a figured quilt top, one in heritage cherry sunburst and one in lemonburst. Although the guitar is built to R8 specs for that year, since it’s a special order, it’s not technically part of the historic program so small aesthetic choices don’t match a true historic (serial number font, custom shop decal).
Regardless of what it is, it’s a killer guitar. Sort of an ultimate Standard for me. One piece, lightweight back and super chunky neck really noticeable. The 57 Classics of that time have a sweeter edge to it, the highs are sizzlier and it sounds a bit more scooped then the modern 57s. Replaced stock abr-1 with TonePros for feel and sound. Crazy good guitar.
Plugging into the new NI Guitar Rig Pro 6. Plexi sim with studio reverb. Playing along with backing track by Elevated Jam Tracks.
