Over its lifetime, when comets or asteroids were being absorbed by Saturn’s gravity, they broke into smaller pieces before reaching the planet because of its powerful gravitational force.
The majority of the mass would be absorbed, but a large amount of debris would start orbiting Saturn like mini moons. The millions of pieces over time organized themselves into the beautiful rings we can see today.
