Steve Golson presents the amazing development history of the Atari 7800 ProSystem (software and hardware) at General Computer Corporation (GCC). From the early days all the way up to Jack Tramiel's cancellation of the console and its subsequent rebirth. Steve also covers some other GCC products and shares some fun anecdotes.
Initially GCC started up as a few students selling “speed up kits” for coinop machines before they got sued by Atari. As part of the lawsuit settlement GCC started developing software and later hardware for Atari and ultimately created the 7800 console which at the time had hardware capabilities on par with the Nintendo NES. Due to the Atari sale from Warner to Jack Tramiel the US-wide release of the 7800 console was delayed by 2 years – giving Nintendo and SEGA ownership of the market.
