In today’s Performance Horse Industry, there are 3 major events for Quarter Horses. The Reining, the Cutting, and the Reined Cow Horse. The organizations that host horse shows are the National Reining Horse Association, National Cutting Horse Association, and the National Reined Cow Horse Association. They each host major aged events every year to showcase the best horses in the industry today. The Sires that are used have been recorded and used to produce a dataset of the top 30 to show which sires had the most of their offspring in the futurities this year. As a horse owner this directly effects the appraisal of my own horses and how their value increases due to the performance of their siblings and their parents.
I gathered information to add to the dataset I pulled from Jimm Mann off Facebook. I was interested in which criteria had the most impact on Sires Success. I used R studio to make tables for each scenario I wanted to compare, and then used R Studio to produce a map of where each Stallion is Standing.
The Older Sires are still competing at the highest level and in the cases of a few that made the top 30, they are still outperforming the junior sires. I also found the Stud fees are very individualized and specific to each horse instead of all rising together like the market would suggest. The horses that have been around the longest have higher progeny Earnings because they’ve had more babies over the years.
