This injury is associated with young athletes but is also prevalent in adults.
Spondylolysis is a stress fracture resulting from mechanical stress at the pars interarticularis of the vertebral arch and mostly occurs at L5. [1,2]
These stress fractures occur due to repetitive loads and pressure on the spine. [1,2]
Spondylolysis is often asymptomatic but can produce focal low back pain.
It is more common in sports with repetitive movements of either spinal hyperextension, spinal rotation, or both.
For instance: gymnasts, cricket bowlers, and weightlifters. [3]
Trainees with spondylolysis should focus on core stability training and lumbosacral brace.
It's also important for these trainees to modify the training or to take a break from training for a period of time according to their injury severity, age, type of sports, and more.
