Sun Damage is Real and Preventable ✨

🔹This is the forearm from a patient of mine for whom I have performed several Mohs series (special type of skin cancer surgery.) He is 77 years old.
🔹He had been wearing a watch for the last 40 years, and he says he NEVER takes it off.
🔹Look at the skin around the watch, and compare it to the skin under the watch which has no clinical signs of sun damage.
🔹This is WHY dermatologists stress not only stress sunscreen but also sun protection (wearing UPF clothing, avoiding the sun at its peak).
🔹Once the skin is this severely damaged, it is not possible to reverse the clock. We can improve it slightly with retinoids or lasers but we cannot reverse it.
🔹This is because UV rays damage the DNA of the skin cells, and so far, that DNA damage is not reversible.
