Street of Luxury Goods is a Korean representative street of fashion and culture. From the Galleria Department Store Luxury Hall in Cheongdam-dong as a starting point, the street stretches toward the Samseong-dong area.
The luxurious image of Cheongdamdong Street of Luxury Goods can be attributed to the establishment of the Galleria Luxury Hall in 1995 and the Seoul Specialized Street Construction Project of 1996. It is formed alongside the main road, from the Galleria Department Store to Cheongdam Intersection. The area is occupied by about 40 flagship stores and compilation stores.
Cheongdam-dong was settled as a district of Seoul in the 1970s as the Apgujeong-dong and Cheongdam-dong regions started to develop extensively as part of the 2nd Yeongdong Land Readjustment Project. The growing demand for cultural activities in these residential areas caused art galleries that had been located in Insa-dong to move to Gangnam region.
Along with the growing interest in art galleries, the residents’ demand for daily consumer forums also increased. Therefore, Hyundai Department Store and the luxury hall/domestic goods hall of the Galleria opened in the mid-1980 and in 1990, respectively. Owing to opening of these department stores, Apgujeong-dong and Chungdam-dong emerged as the center of a luxury shopping culture.
Today we look around the luxury brands shops on Cheongdam-dong street by walking the street from Exit 2 of Apgujeong Rodeo Subway Station to Cheongdam crossroad around 500m(0.3mile).
