Today we’re going to talk about GERD causes, symptoms, and treatment.
GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) is similar to acid reflux or heartburn. This is really caused by a problem with the valve between the esophagus and the stomach.
The reason why many people have acid reflux, GERD, or heartburn is because the pH in their stomach goes too alkaline. Normally in your stomach, you need a pH of 1-3, which is extremely acid. As the number goes higher, things become more alkaline.
When you lose your stomach acid, which is common in older people, the valve between the esophagus and the stomach won’t close anymore.
People typically take antacids in this situation. These will help a person feel better in the short-term, but over time it can actually make the condition worse. You need your stomach pH to be very acidic to be able to absorb minerals and digest protein.
If you eat food without a good strong acid stomach, you could end up with acid reflux symptoms or gastroesophageal reflux disease symptoms, such as:
• Gas
• Indigestion
• Bloating
• Trouble absorbing minerals
• Anemia
• You can’t digest meat (especially red meat)
How to help get rid of acid reflux and GERD:
• Betaine hydrochloride (with a meal)
• Apple cider vinegar (with a meal)
There is also a microbe called h-pylori that invades your system when your stomach pH goes to alkaline. If you have strong stomach acid, you can have more protection against h-pylori.
