On Tuesday, November 29, 2022, an earthquake measuring 5.9 magnitude struck the Canadian province of Alberta. The quake hit at 4:45 pm local time near Peace River.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 6.2 miles. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface.
A second report was later issued by the German Research Centre for Geosciences , which listed it as a magnitude 5.8 earthquake.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter.
A local resident reported that he was suddenly shaken while sitting at his desk in the office. The whole building is shaking and items are moving. There was a small aftershock after a few minutes later.
Light shaking probably occurred in High Prairie located 56 miles from the epicenter and Fairview 73 miles away.
