For many years, automakers have been making spinoff brands for electric cars, primarily as a way to allow them to develop plug-in vehicles without 'upsetting' their loyal gas-guzzling fans.

But now motorcycle manufacturer Harley Davidson is doing the same thing, spinning off its Livewire moniker and making it an entirely new sub-brand.

It's great to see more electric motorcycles coming to market - but we're not sure if this is a smart move or not.
