There are three main learning styles: visual, auditory and kinesthetic. The auditory learning style is one where you learn best by hearing. These students will be taking it in by hearing, to complement what they are seeing. Auditory learners can listen and take it all in. We need to understand how these students do this. Lectures are good for them, and it might not look like they are taking notes, but they are processing. Auditory stimulus assists, so they might hum or listen to music. There are things that we can do to help auditory learners. Have your child's hearing tested regularly. Study and learning time shouldn't be quiet, it should be done out loud. Ample opportunities need to be given for these students to be hearing for learning.
I recommend the book Possum Magic by Mem Fox with illustrations by Julie Vivas.
I also share my thoughts on repeating a grade.
