Did you know that the Roman army was formed by 5 different types of units? In times of the republic the army was formed by citizens who had to buy their own armor and weapons, so their wealth used to determine their role in the Legion.

The poorest and youngest unit were the Velites, who used to buy ranged weapons and cheap armors, they were the first line of infantry.

The Hastati used to prefer close combat and were had more experience and resources than velites. Principes were the second line and were even wealthier than their colleagues.

In addition, the Triarii was the most experienced unit formed by strong soldiers. The last one is the cavalry, they were the richest unit in the army and only had to serve for 10 years. They were focused on protecting the vulnerable points of the formation and defend them.

You will find this amazing Legion in Citadelum, our next indie game coming in 2024. It will be a citybuilding/strategy game based in ancient Rome way before it was an empire.

You will build your own settlement, trade resources, explore the map with the Legion, expand your domains and try to gain the favor of the gods in mythical encounters.

Try to rise to the Roman Pantheon, build temples and offer gifts to gods, but keep your eyes open, they are known for being pretty jealous...
