New research found that eating a Mediterranean diet may increase your mood. In a recent study 32 percent of people with moderate to severe depression "experienced a significant decline in depressive symptoms after 12 weeks" when they started eating a Mediterranean diet. The daily diet included 6 servings of vegetables, 5 to 8 servings of whole grains, 1 serving of unsalted nuts, 3 servings of fruit, 2 to 3 servings of low-fat unsweetened dairy, and 3 tablespoons of olive oil. The weekly diet included 2 servings of fish, 3 to 4 servings of lean red meat, 2 to 3 servings of chicken, and up to six eggs.
