Built in 1200 CE, the Borgund Stave Church has been beautifully preserved. This makes it a very popular sight but the small church can only house 20 people at a time, so plan your visit well!
It costs €10 to enter the church. Call ahead to the accompanying visitor center to check if any tour buses are due to arrive on the day of your visit. If so, plan your visit before or after!
In the church, be sure to ask the staff for some stories, as they can best help you appreciate the wonderful details, like the dragon statues on the roof and the rune graffiti inside 🐉
The old Kingsroad passes right by the church so you can combine your visit with a hike, like we did! The Vindhellavegen leading to the church is one of the most beautiful stretches.
And finally, if you don’t want to pay or would rather steer clear of the crowds, driving past the Stave Church is completely free ✨
