So a few years ago, I was a full time employee at Google.
My job was to make videos for Google Cloud
Now on my first three days on the job, we all had to go through “Noogler Training”, where we were forced to sit through corporate training.
Even at Google!
What I quickly noticed though, was that most of the trainings were video-based.
And the reasons Google chose video for our training is obvious: it saves time, money and it brings a level of consistency that live trainings just can’t match.
And I also noticed that they were animated videos, and here’s why they’re so effective:
We all get bombarded every day by more digital content online, and that’s why it’s so important to have videos that grab and keep attention.
This is especially true if you’re looking to train employees on important safety procedures or on details of how your products work.
And this is a key benefit that animated videos offer: They paint the picture of what you’re trying to teach while keeping viewers tuned in.

So it kept you engaged, right? This type of story would would be nearly impossible to make using cameras and live actors.
And while camera and actors do create a professional look, sadly it results in boring and forgettable videos. Which brings me to my next point:
Animated training videos get remembered easily, especially when you use a little creativity. Tug at your viewers’ emotional heartstrings a bit, and you’re sure to get your messages to stick.
For example, if your HR policy videos are based on a horror film theme, or your computer training series was based on an educational hygiene film from the 1950’s
“Spring, when a young man’s fancy likely turns to….Thought.”
Your employees will categorize the video series in their minds easier.
Now the best training videos are meaningful and memorable.
If you take the extra time to create fun and memorable videos, you’ll spend less time later training people yourself or clean up after their mistakes.
This is simply a logistical issue.
Hiring a camera crew to shoot a video, or holding a live training session takes time, money and can be a huge distraction to your best employees.
With animation, the production team doesn’t have to come to your building and it’s a lot more cost effective.
Plus your employees can watch the videos on their own time. So what type of corporate training videos are best for animation? All of them, really.
As new people join your company, animation is a great way to welcome them and introduce your mission, values and unique offering.
It sets your company apart from others and makes the sometimes overwhelming experience of starting a new job, fun.
These are big at Google. Whether for marketing, sales or more technical role like engineering, animated videos break up the monotony of in-person training.
Animated training videos take the awkwardness out of HR policy videos and make them a lot easier to watch.
Now while every company has its own HR policies, using animated characters makes it easy to get your key messages, across, and takes the awkwardness out.
Create videos once and your employees can ramp up on new products when it’s convenient for them.
You can include actual images of your products, like your user interface or high-res product images to give the level of detail needed to provide a comprehensive training.
Starting a new year with an animated sales kickoff video, that shows your product roadmap to your sales team - for example - gets everyone on the same page and can be motivating.
