If ever there was a blatant example of the cultural divide between Sydney and Melbourne, especially in the 60s, then, this is it!
The band came from Melbourne and they traded on the intercity rivalry to produce this # 1 hit...
...yes...it reached # 1 in Melbourne, and it stayed there for two weeks.
Members of the band included the inspirational speaker, media personality and health author Dr. John Tickell...
...and, like most folks songs of the day, written about contemporary subjects, it sounds dated today
...for instance, mention of (then) Victorian icons like Granny Davis Bread, car salesman Kevin Dennis, Cheif Censor Arthur Rylah would mean little to today's listener.
(Of course, the same can be said for the lyrics of Frank Hardy's "Sydney Town", made famous by Gary Shearston).
This track was released in 1968 on a CBS 45, BA-221474.
The flipside was a folksie cover of the Rolling Stones classic, "As Tears Go By", which I've also uploaded to YouTube.
This upload is from the original 45.
