Originally broadcast in three parts on the digital radio station BBC7, this reading of the Washington Irving classic by Martin Jarvis was even billed as being part of 'Ghost Stories for Christmas'.
That billing did seem to suggest that The Legend of Sleepy Hollow was only the first of many such stories, but in fact there were no other programmes broadcast under that heading (though fantasy, horror and science fiction was part of the channel's daily output all year round). Nonetheless, this reading has been repeated many times over the years and is often wheeled out for broadcast in December, including as recently as 2020.
