Just 50 miles north of New York City, Bannerman's Island holds the remains of a Scottish-style castle. Built by Frank Bannerman, a Scottish immigrant who started a military surplus business at 14, the castle stored his vast inventory acquired after the Spanish-American War. Despite Bannerman's death in 1918 and subsequent disasters, including an explosion and a fire, the island remains a testament to his legacy. Efforts to preserve it continue, allowing the public to appreciate this historical gem.
