Against the backdrop of democracy, equality, and fairness, the notion that long ago, before He created the world, God chose some people for salvation but not everyone seems downright offensive.
Why would God redeem some unworthy sinners, but allow others—people no more unworthy—to spend eternity in hell? On what basis did God decide? If someone who wasn’t chosen by God dies and goes to hell, who is really responsible? And if He chose whom He would save, what’s the point of personal evangelism?
Those are the difficult questions inevitably raised by the doctrine of election, and those are the kinds of questions John MacArthur confronts head-on in his thought-provoking, praise-inducing study Chosen for Eternity.
