Usually I'm really excited about sound tests but this time I'm not so happy because it was a purchase I needed to make, not because I wanted it :(
Surprisingly, the Rode sounds better than the SSH-6, but it could also be because my audio level on my SSH is set pretty low, so with post gain there's more white noise. But in any case, I'm impressed with how the Rode sounds. You can hear it sound less great with noise reduction put on, but even without it, the white noise is minimal (I might still have to down the camera audio level from 12 to 10 because it peaks at some loud noises).
The only downside I see with the Rode is that it picks up more sound from the sides, the pickup pattern is wider compared to the SSH-6. Though at this point, no point complaining... Well, despite the whole side mic feature the SSH-6 has, it doesn't sound as great, I've noticed.
Having a shotgun on the camera is so convenient though, I feel dumb that I didn't make this $50USD purchase earlier. I need to find an adapter to put my mic at the side of the camera so I can use the flip up screen though...
