Poland said today it would hand over all MiG-29 fighter jets to the United States, and apparently agreed to a deal that would allow the Ukrainian military to use them.

The U.S. government is considering a proposal that Poland would provide Ukraine with Soviet-era fighter jets in exchange for American F-16s to cover their losses. Ukrainian pilots are trained to fly Soviet-era fighter jets.

The Polish foreign ministry said in a statement that Poland was ready to deliver the fighter jets to the US-based Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany.
"At the same time, Poland has asked the United States to provide us with used aircraft with appropriate capabilities," it said.
In a statement, the Polish government called on "other NATO allies - the owners of the MIG-29 jets - to act in the same direction".
Russia has warned Ukraine's neighbors not to deploy its warplanes on its soil, saying Moscow may see it as their "interference in a military conflict". This could mean the start of hostilities.
