Dr. Allen describes what symptoms a patient on the low functioning end of the autism spectrum would have. These could include a child who is non verbal and engages is a lot of restricted and repetitive behaviors. Dr. Allen then compares this to the symptoms of a high functioning individual with autism. They would be highly verbal, but will still have restricted behaviors. Their restricted behaviors may be that they talk about the same topic extensively.
