It wasn't the science, or all the sickness and death, or all the previous individual lawsuits...but a 10 year (Federal) court battle that the tobacco corporations lost (after exhausting all their appeals) that forced them to admit that using tobacco kills people; and, that there is no safe level of exposure to second hand smoke.
We also know that cigarette butts kill microbial and animal life in both soils, along beaches, and in water.
It's insane that people still smoke- as we all pay for this in increased health care (insurance) cost(s).
