Throughout his career, Richards has shown that he loves jazz and classical music. On the other hand, he hates current pop music, especially rap, which he calls "yelling."
Richards also talked about hip-hop songs with the New York Daily News in 2015. What rap did that was impressive was show there are so many tone-deaf people out there, he said. They are content as long as there is a drum beat and someone yelling over it. There's a huge need for people who can't tell the difference between notes.
As the musician continued to talk with The Telegraph, he said, I want to start complaining about pop music. He still gave his opinion, though. He said, It's always been rubbish. That's kind of the point. Because they make it as simple and cheap as possible, it sounds the same every time it doesn't have much feel.
In addition to the "yelling," Richards said that modern music focuses too much on synthesized sounds. Then Richards said, "I like music where people play instruments," a jab at computerized music. "That is, I don't like hearing plastic synthesized Muzak, or Muzak as it used to be called, like what you hear in elevators these days."
