What Lengths Did Viggo Mortensen Go To Create Authentic Fight Scenes?

Always committed to his craft, when playing Aragorn in The Lord Of The Rings films Mortensen not only withstood a series of injuries after insisting he carried out his own stunts, but the actor also trained as a master swordsman in order to create the most realistic battle scenes he could. Rather than use the standard Aluminium swords used by stunt performers, which are much lighter and safer, Mortensen, dedicated to training as a master swordsman, chose to use a real steel sword throughout production. Mortensen was trained by legendary swordsman Bob Anderson who later stated that Mortensen was ‘the best swordsmen I ever trained’.
